How to Extend the Life of Your Electric Motor – Nov. 11, 2019

Sustaining a long and “healthy” life for your electric motor could be the difference between thousands of dollars in lost revenue resulting from downtime or being able to maintain productivity. One of the most important things you should do when you have electric motors is find a repair shop and partner with them. They can assist with feedback on past failures and mistakes and how to avoid/correct them in the future. You can apply all those findings to other motor applications in similar environments (it could mean you need to change some of your maintenance habits).

You should also be on the constant lookout for any contaminants that are getting into the motor such as water, grease, oil, etc. There is a chance that you need a different enclosure and better protection. Seipee offers several environment protection options if this is a need of yours! Other areas to focus on are whether you are applying the proper lubrications and making sure the temperature is safe for these motors. You want to make sure you are not over greasing and are using a high-quality lubricant with just the right amount. Refer to the manufacturers guidelines if there is ever confusion. A motors operating temperature can be increased to a dangerous temperature from overloads, un-balanced voltage, and improper ventilation among other things.

Staying on top of all aspects of your motor maintenance should keep it in good shape and allow it to remain efficient for a longer period of time. A slip up in motor maintenance can always cause downtime, resulting in a steep loss in revenue.

Stay on everything and keep your motor life extended as long as you can!
